Permit Handling and Utility Coordination

We file the building and electrical subcode permits with the West Windsor Township Construction Office and submit your interconnection application. Interconnection is the longest wait in the project, and approval times have been stretching, so we track it rather than leaving you to call the utility.

What Changed in 2026, and What Did Not

The 30% federal credit under Section 25D ended December 31, 2025. Buy outright with cash or a loan this year and there is no federal credit. Any quote still advertising 30% is working from old information.

New Jersey’s incentives held, though one just moved:

  • SREC-II through SuSI. $77 per megawatt-hour, down from $85 as of July 27, 2026. Locks at registration, paid quarterly for 15 years.
  • Full retail net metering. PSE&G credits your exports at the retail rate.
  • Sales tax exemption. No 6.625% on the equipment.
  • Property tax exemption. The added value stays off your assessment.

Two things worth knowing. The residential program runs on a capped annual block that closes when it fills, and registrations have been running above 5 MW a week. And Section 48E still covers third-party-owned systems through 2027, so ownership structure now changes the math more than it used to.

Solar Installation for Homes and Commercial Buildings

A home uses the most power after the sun drops, so the design leans on net metering credits to carry the evening. A commercial building uses the most at midday, when the roof is already producing. Same equipment, different sizing logic.

Residential Solar Installation

Aresidential solar system here is usually constrained by shading and panel capacity long before roof area becomes the limit. Larger homes in this stretch of the county, and on our solar panel installation in Princeton projects, often need more array than the roof’s best face can hold, so the design spreads onto secondary planes. 

Commercial Solar Installation

Along the Route 1 corridor, commercial solar also gets better incentive treatment: a rooftop system under 1 MW earns $110 per megawatt-hour against the residential $77. Daytime load plus the higher rate is why commercial projects often pencil out faster, and it is the same math behind our Robbinsville Township solar installations.

What Affects Solar Installation Costs in West Windsor

The state publishes a benchmark worth knowing. New Jersey residential projects averaged $3.66 per watt over the past year on a representative 9.8 kW system, or roughly $36,000 before incentives.

West Windsor systems often run larger, because the loads are larger. Past size, cost tracks roof complexity and whether the service panel needs upgrading.

Financing Options and Payment Flexibility

With the federal credit gone for owned systems, your solar financing structure now changes what the project is worth. Cash and loan purchases give you the SREC-II income and full ownership. Leases and PPAs shift the federal credit to the system owner, who passes it through in the rate. We run both against your numbers so you can see the difference rather than take our word for it.

What These Incentives Actually Add Up To

Two streams run at once, and one does not reduce the other.

Net metering handles the bill. Exports come back as retail-rate credits, so rate increases start working in your favor.

SREC-II is separate income. On the state’s modeling figures, a 9.8 kW system earns about $965 a year at the current $77 rate, close to $14,500 over the 15-year term.

Territory matters too. A comparable home in East Windsor can land on a different rate, which changes what each offset kilowatt-hour is worth.

Equipment Selection, System Output, and Warranty Protection

Panel quality sets the ceiling on production, but inverter strategy is what protects it. On roofs with afternoon shading, module-level electronics keep one shaded panel from dragging down the string. Adding battery storage later is easier when the inverter is specified for it up front.

Coverage runs 25 years on both equipment and workmanship. Equipment warranties are manufacturer-backed against defects and production degradation. Workmanship coverage is ours, and it includes the roof penetrations we make.

Not outright. New Jersey law limits what associations can restrict, though several of the township’s newer developments do run architectural review, and a rail-free array with hidden conduit is usually what clears it.
