How Utility Interconnection and Energy Credits Work

After we clear your system for operation, we connect it to the local power grid through an interconnection agreement, allowing your home or business to both receive and supply electricity.

When your panels produce more energy than you’re using, the excess is sent back to the grid and applied to your account as bill credits under New Jersey’s net metering rules. We coordinate with your utility company to set you up for year-round savings.

New Jersey Solar Incentives That Still Apply in 2026

New Jersey writes these programs, but Evesham Township and Atlantic City Electric are the ones that administer them on your house. The state stack held up when the federal credit did not, and four pieces of it still apply here:

SuSI / SREC-II: a fixed payment per megawatt-hour produced, locked for 15 years. We register your system once Atlantic City Electric grants permission to operate.
Net metering: Atlantic City Electric credits excess production at full retail rate rather than wholesale, then reconciles the balance at the annual true-up.
Sales tax exemption: solar equipment is exempt from New Jersey’s 6.625% sales tax, applied at purchase.
Property tax exemption: the value solar adds is excluded from your assessment, but only after the Evesham construction official certifies the system and Form CRES reaches the township assessor. It is not automatic, and most installers never mention it.

Rates and eligibility shift, so we confirm the live SuSI rate against your registration date instead of quoting last year’s number.

Do I need HOA approval to put solar on my roof in Marlton?

A flat ban is unenforceable under New Jersey’s Solar Rights Act (N.J.S.A. 45:22A-48.2) on a roof you solely own. Your association can still set reasonable placement rules, so send us your covenants and we design around them.

My roof is fifteen years old. Should I replace it before going solar?

Usually yes. Resetting an array later costs more than roofing first, and we will tell you at the assessment if your shingles will not outlive the panels.

What does my Atlantic City Electric bill look like once the system is on?

You still get one, but it drops to the connection charge plus anything you drew beyond your own production. Summer credits carry the winter, with a true-up once a year.

Can I still go solar if my roof faces east and west?

Yes. East-west splits are common on the split-levels here and across Mount Laurel, and usually land close to a south-facing array. We model your roof before you commit.

What happens to the system if I sell the house?

It transfers with the house, and your SuSI registration follows the address. We hand over the documentation closing asks for.
